Find a Partner

Goal: Find a partner who has a measurement in common with you

Grades: K, 1, 2

Group size: 4 or more

Time: 10 minutes or less

Spotlight: Comparing length

Prerequisites:

None

 

1. Announce something to compare

Ask children to find someone with the same measurement. For instance:

2. Can you top that?

Children pair up with the first person they find who has the same measurement.

Anyone who can’t find a partner joins the person or pair who comes closest.

Variations

Count and Compare (Grades K, 1, 2)
Children find a partner with the same number of buttons on (or, same number of pockets or same shoe size).

Comparing Names (Grades K, 1, 2)
Children find a partner with the same number of first name (or last name) letters. For more challenge, they find a partner with the same total number of name letters (first, middle, and last).

Sizes in Nature (Grades K, 1, 2)
Each child finds a leaf (or stone or stick). They pair up with the person whose leaf is closet in size to their own leaf.
