Welcome to Mixing in Math!
Mixing in Math activities are:
- Quick ways to mix math in to what after-school programs
already do: sports, snack time, arts and crafts, playground games;
- Easy to prep;
- Easy to lead. You don't need math background or special
training;
- Designed to be
used with any school math curriculum and can complement homework in
a variety of ways.
- Free!
Mixing in Math builds children's
skills including:
- Time sense. Children use clocks and calendars to count
down and keep track of time.
- Size sense. Children find and compare length, width,
and height as part of games and art projects.
- Record-keeping. Children gather and organize fun facts
about everyday things.
- Math talk. Children use words
about size, shape, and numbers to add detail to stories and skits.
The Mixing in Math website and activities...
- are under development;
- could use your feedback. You are invited to give feedback
every time you come to this site.
